Early Life and Background

Skylar Jade Katz, professionally known as Sky Katz, was born on December 12, 2004, in Melville, New York. She is the youngest of four siblings, with two older sisters, Madison and Hailey, and an older brother, Dylan. Her father, Mike Katz, is a doctor, and her mother, Fran Katz, is a homemaker. Sky developed an interest in rap music at the age of five, influenced by her parents' appreciation for artists like Biggie and Tupac, as well as contemporary rappers such as Nicki Minaj and Drake . In addition to her musical pursuits, she was an avid basketball player, participating in three different traveling teams during her school years 

Breakthrough on America's Got Talent

In 2016, at the age of 11, Sky auditioned for the 11th season of America's Got Talent, performing her original rap song "Fresh." Her performance impressed the judges and audience, leading to widespread recognition. She followed up with another original song, "Haters," further showcasing her talent . Although she did not advance to the finals, her appearances on the show significantly boosted her public profile.​

Acting Career: Disney Channel and Beyond

Sky's acting career took off in 2017 when she was cast as Tess O'Malley in the Disney Channel sitcom Raven's Home, a spin-off of That's So Raven. She portrayed Tess, the best friend of Raven's daughter, from 2017 to 2021, and made a guest appearance in the show's sixth season in 2023 . Her performance earned her a nomination for Outstanding Principal Performance in a Children's Program at the 48th Daytime Emmy Awards in 2021 .​

In 2022, Sky starred as Summer Torres in the Netflix series Surviving Summer, playing a rebellious New York teenager sent to live with family friends in a coastal Australian town . The role allowed her to showcase her versatility as an actress and introduced her to a global audience.​
